Compensation: $26.25, Non-Exempt, Full Time

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm (Some nights and weekends) 

Reports to:  Director of Advocacy and Engagement

Rocky Mountain Equality (RMEQ) works collaboratively to create connections and provide advocacy, education, research, cultural events, and responsive programs and services that ensure LGBTQ+ people, families, and communities thrive. 


Description of the Work

The Trans Community Organizer strives to support and empower the transgender community through community engagement  and programing services, leading efforts in building strong, meaningful connections with trans community members, leaders, and groups throughout our service area. They will collaborate closely with the Director of Advocacy and Engagement, the Director of Programs and Services, and partner with other staff in organizing, creating, and delivering a wide-range of programming for the transgender community including social support groups, social activities, community education workshops, advocacy training, and annual events such as Transgender Day of Remembrance and Trans Awareness Week.


The Trans Community Organizer also serves as the primary contact for transgender community members seeking resources and support, maintaining accurate program records, and assisting with grant-related data collection and reporting. Additionally, they will aid in contributing to organization-wide efforts, including event staffing, advocacy, fundraising, community engagement, and general office support as needed.


Essential Functions

  • Develop strong relationships with trans community members, community leaders, and community organizations throughout the organization's service area.

  • Gather community input from trans community members to help inform program and service planning and development as well as identification of strategic advocacy priorities.

  • In collaboration with the communications team, leverage their networks and relationships to ensure community awareness of our programs and services for trans community members. 

  • Serve as a member of the Programs and Services team to ensure continuity of services across program areas and facilitate warm handoff when appropriate to other staff and program areas for trans community members.

  • Provides administrative and hands-on support with the organization's trans-centered support groups ensuring high-quality, affirming services that promote community connection and individual wellbeing while also facilitating access to RMEQ's broader services. 

  • Coordinate and execute transgender events including, but not limited to: Trans Awareness Week, Transgender Day of Remembrance, Transgiving Celebration, Pride programming, other community responsive events and activities.

  • Aid in the development of new and dynamic trans community outreach strategies 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact to support transgender community members in identifying and accessing program services, resources, and opportunities.

  • Maintain attendance, program records, and coordinate participant communication and other administrative tasks, including assisting with grant reporting.

  • Other duties as needed and assigned to advance the mission and impact of RMEQ, including assisting with programming in other parts of our service area and supporting organizational activities and events.


Qualifications

  • Demonstrated Experience with community organizing and program development.

  • Experience working with transgender individuals and/or communities.

  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills.

  • Computer proficiency required, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and the Google Workspace Suite. CRM experience preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining strong communication and collaboration.

  • Administrative experience including record-keeping, scheduling, and reporting

  • Bilingual proficiency in reading, writing and speaking Spanish is highly preferred.


Education & Experience

  • Lived experience and relevant professional experience ideal for this position

  • A bachelor's degree in human services or related field OR equivalent/comparable experience 

  • Certified as a peer support specialist or willing to become certified. This includes being a mandated reporter.
