Rocky Mountain Equality hasn’t stopped fighting back as 2025 continues to bring new, widespread challenges to LGBTQ+ rights – from the federal government to local school boards.

The Big Picture

Attacks on LGBTQ+ people are coming from every level of government. Each one puts Coloradans’ dignity and safety on the line.

RMEQ is responding on three fronts: federal, state, and local.

Pushing Back at the Federal Level

RMEQ is standing up to national efforts that target transgender Americans.

  • Healthcare being threatened: RMEQ submitted an official comment on the Federal Trade Commission’s targeted attack on providers of gender-affirming care, condemning the use of national resources to investigate healthcare providers who are just doing their job.

  • Why it matters: The FTC falsely claimed that gender-affirming care was a “deceptive practice,” threatening medical professionals who provide fact-based care to trans youth.

  • The reality: Healthcare decisions should be made by families and professionals, not politicians.

RMEQ also joined advocates and experts from across the country to oppose:

  • Transgender exclusion from federal data collection

  • Attacks on data privacy and security for all Americans

  • Additional attempts to restrict healthcare for trans people

Defending Colorado from National Culture Wars

Even in Colorado, national extremists are trying to push anti-LGBTQ+ agendas. RMEQ isn’t backing down. Through the Hands Off Colorado campaign, we are raising awareness and fighting back against two potential ballot measures in 2026 that:

  • Target transgender youth in sports

  • Ban access to gender-affirming care for youth

Why it matters: Coloradans value freedom and privacy and don’t need to be controlled by imported policies. RMEQ will fight against any effort to use Colorado families as pawns in national political battles.

Strengthening Local Communities

Equality is not possible without our local governments ensuring that every individual, no matter who they are, has the opportunity to thrive.

  • Supporting mental health: RMEQ proudly supports Issue 1B, “Healthy Minds, Stronger Community,” a measure that will fund behavioral health programs in Boulder County for those most in need, including LGBTQ+ people.

  • Protecting our public schools: We have held community forums and issued questionnaires to school board candidates all over the Front Range to ensure that LGBTQ+ students are prioritized, not erased, in public education.

    • Adams 12, Boulder Valley, Denver, Greeley-Evans District 6, Jefferson County, Poudre, St. Vrain Valley, and Thompson.

The Bottom Line

At RMEQ, we believe that every person deserves to live with safety, dignity, and opportunity, no matter who they are. The work is tough, especially right now, but our commitment is unwavering. We’re not slowing down.
