Fun Fact:

Atlas Moths don’t eat as adults, they rely entirely on energy stored from earlier life stages.

FEMME QUEEN REALNESS – Monarch Butterfly $150

Inspired by the Monarch Butterfly, and endangered species that is a powerful symbol of migration, survival, and transformation.

Bring it wet, glossy, and translucent like our favorite decomposers, the slug. Think gel, vinyl, latex, or anything that looks freshly slick.

BEST DRESSED – Insect Patterns $150

Insects use fabulous patterns for a variety of reasons, such as to attract mates, warn predators, or blend into their environment. We want to see elegance as you bring these patterns to the runway. BRING A PHOTO of your insect inspiration.

Male Figure – Stripes

Female Figure – Lace

Gender Nonconforming – Polka Dots

Fun Fact:

Bright colors in insects often signal toxicity or strength, not softness.

HANDS PERFORMANCE – Rosie the Tarantula - $100

Rosie was a Chilean rose tarantula handled by patrons of Colorado's butterfly pavilion for over 20 years. Bring it in a glove inspired by Rosie, one of the pavilion’s most iconic mascots.

Fun Fact:

Chilean rose tarantulas are known for being calm and gentle. They rely on slow, deliberate movement, not speed.

FACE – Iridescence Excellence $150

This category is about glow, structure, and how light hits the face, just like how iridescent insects change color depending on the angle.

Subcategories

Male Figure Face – Iridescent Blue

Female Figure Face – Iridescent Emerald

Sickening winged eyeliner required

Gender Nonconforming Face – Iridescent Red

Beginner Face – Pearlescent White

Soft, pearlescent white

Fun Fact:

Iridescent insects don’t use color for beauty alone! It helps with camouflage, mating, and survival.

BIZARRE – Colorado Cryptids $150

Step into the strange and surreal by bringing to life the cryptids rumored, joked about, and whispered through Colorado folklore. From ManBearPig to Tommyknockers, Slide-rock Bolters and beyond, this category invites competitors to transform into an imagined creature that blurs the line between myth, satire, and fear.

COMMENTATOR vs COMMENTATOR $100

Commentators must bring it using a chant that includes the word “chrysalis.” Control the crowd and elevate the room.

Fun Fact:

A chrysalis is the stage where a caterpillar fully transforms into a butterfly, where everything breaks down before becoming something new.

RUNWAY – Wings of the Rockies $150

Serve a look, attitude, and walk inspired by butterflies found in the Rocky Mountains, and dont forget your wings when you lift off the runway!

European Runway – American Snout

Inspired by the leaf-like camouflage of the butterfly, reveal the colors of your inner wings!

Female Figure Runway – Colorado Hairstreak

Inspired by Colorado’s state butterfly, bring a rich iridescent purple look that would make our state proud.

All American Runway – Anise Swallowtail

The Anise Swallowtail is found near the mountains, with yellow and black patterned wings that flutter at up to 14,000 feet. Soar high with this look!

Beginner Runway – Southern Rocky Mountain Orange Tip

Just like the butterfly, we are looking for an all-white look with just a pop of orange on the tips of your effect.

Fun Fact:

Butterfly wings are covered in thousands of tiny scales. These scales create color through light reflection, not pigment, meaning movement changes how the color appears.

KVNT vs KVNT – Chitin - $100

Bring it in hard shell couture. This category is about armor, texture, and confidence inspired by shrimp, crabs, beetles, and other creatures with exoskeletons.

Fun Fact:
